About the Artist

Patrice Carlin is a still life artist whose body of work exhibits a delightful range from quiet beauty to whimsical play. Her training and style of painting are best described as representational art in the classical tradition. She paints exclusively from an arrangement of objects carefully composed and meticulously drawn. Her pieces are chosen to tell a story, set a mood, or to simply relish the juxtaposition of colors, shapes and surfaces.

In her words, “I choose to paint still life for the beauty and magic of the play of light on white porcelain, the burnished reflection of pewter, silver and brass, the elusive transparency of colored glass, the mystery of shadow on velvet and satin. I choose to paint with oils because they are rich and vibrant.”

In addition to still life, she captures the simple beauty of nature in flowers and rustic settings. Her floral paintings and landscapes add to the variety of her portfolio.

Her background is as varied as her art. She studied art at the University of North Carolina, but upon graduation embarked on a long career in marketing with a Fortune 500 company headquartered in New York City. She moved to New York, married, had two children and eventually pursued her passion for art. She spent ten years studying and painting with Jon DeMartin at his Port Chester, NY studio. She also studied at the The Art Students League and Grand Central Academy. Additionally, she completed training at The Staten Island Teaching Artist Institute, taught students in her own studio and is currently teaching at The Center for Continuing Education in Mamaroneck.
